Questions and answers
The basics
What is DocXAssist?
A Windows and macOS app that finds the translation of a phrase in your own documents: textbooks, glossaries, bilingual contracts. Take the phrase from the screen, subtitles or speech — the translation appears in a window on top of every app.
How is it better than an online translator?
An online translator produces a best guess; DocXAssist takes the translation from your document — with exactly the terminology your teacher or client expects. It also works on top of any window, in real time and offline.
Which documents work?
Word (.docx, .doc), PDF, scans and photos (.png, .jpg, .tif, .webp). Inside: a table where one column is in one language and the other is its translation, or a two-column textbook. You can load several documents at once.
Which languages are supported?
Documents: English, Ukrainian, Spanish and German in any pair. Speech recognition and voice-over also support Russian. The interface is available in 5 languages.
Privacy and security
Are my documents sent to a server?
Documents, screenshots and audio are processed on your computer. Only when you use an AI feature yourself is what you asked about sent: the selected part of the screen, a photo of a problem, a lecture transcript or matching excerpts from your documents.
Is the translation window visible when I share my screen?
No. The translation window and tracking frame are hidden from screen recordings and streams (Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS).
Why does Windows show a warning during installation?
The app doesn't have a paid Microsoft certificate yet, so SmartScreen shows a warning. Click “More info” → “Run anyway”. Updates themselves are protected by our digital signature.
Using the app
Do I need the internet?
Only to sign in (once every 7 days), to download models the first time and to update. Translation, recognition and voice-over work offline.
Will it run on a weak laptop?
Yes. The app detects your graphics card and memory and picks light models for weaker computers. With an NVIDIA graphics card, speech recognition is noticeably faster.
Can it translate audio from a video or a call?
Yes. In voice mode the app listens to computer audio or your microphone. On macOS it uses system audio capture (macOS 13+).
Account and payment
How many devices can I use?
Free — 2, Student — 3, Pro — 5. You can unlink a device on the Account page up to 3 times a month.
How will payment work?
Card payments are coming to the website soon. The subscription renews monthly and can be cancelled at any time — it stays active until the end of the paid period.
What do I get for inviting a friend?
Send your code from the Account section to a friend. When they sign up with it and subscribe, you both get 7 days of the Student plan.
How do I remove the app and its data?
Windows: Settings → Apps → DocXAssist → Uninstall. macOS: drag the app to the Trash. Your data and models are in %APPDATA%\DocXAssist (Windows) or ~/Library/Application Support/DocXAssist (macOS).
